 Bai Hu - Tiger!
Mythological Background: The tiger is associated with strength and the desire for a challenge. It is also associated with hope to win, or rather, the blooming season. It is also linked to meandering, or the ability to be in contact with a lot of aspects. The tiger also stands for war and soldiers fighting to the end, for the sake of their country.

Crabbyass Saturday, July 31, 2004 02:59 p.m. |
That's me today - a total crabby ass.
I stayed up too late again last night and really didn't want to get up this morning.
I yelled at Stephen most of the morning for stupid shit, like not closing the shower cutain and leaving his newspapers all over. I just feel like everyone in this house leaves a trail of destruction behind them as they go and never cleans up! Its more noticable because the apartment is being shown every couple of days and I'm having to keep up with it being immaculate - a state my house isn't very good at maintaining.
I took the kids to Target prior to Alex's baseball game this afternoon and bought two new pillows, a new mattress pad and a new sheet set for our bed. The kids ruined one of our old sets with ink and stupid me, I didn't wash the mattress pad, so the ink from that bled onto my OTHER good set - ugh. Decent sheets are too fucking expensive, I had to settle for middle of the road sheets - they better not get all pilly! I'm happy to have new pillows though - there's just no good way to wash a pillow and sometimes they just NEED it.
I made blueberry pancakes for breakfast that almost no one ate, then I made two pizzas from scratch that almost no one ate, now I'm planning chicken curry for dinner and screw the little brats - no one's going to eat that either!
Tomorrow I need to go grocery shopping for some produce and Monday morning starts my new eating plan. I've been feeling so reduced as a person lately, I need to make sure my nutrition is optimum for my energy needs and its far from adequate right now. My kids need to eat more damned vegetables too...
Anyway - I'm just feeling bitchy today and I hope my kids just ignore me.
Good news for once... Thursday, July 29, 2004 08:39 a.m. |
My Realtor called yesterday and gave me some good news. The water main is OK and will be completely covered by the sellers. Also, the tree in front that has Dutch Elm's disease will be removed two days before we close on the house, but there'll be a stump there. Oh well... it could be worse.
Ikea Tuesday, July 27, 2004 09:09 a.m. |
Ikea will be providing most of my new house. I got the 2004 catalog in the newspaper on Sunday and plotted out everything we need. I'll probably drop around $2,000 for new furniture, etc. Bunk beds, desk, rugs, couch, lamps, bookshelves, wardrobe, dresser...
I'm insane! I'm even renting a truck to take home the stash!
AAAUUUUUGGGHHHH!!! Monday, July 26, 2004 12:45 p.m. |
Ok - so in the purchase agreement, the seller is supposed to cover fixing the water main at the street/curb, not to exceed $2,000 (their estimates were $1,400 to $1,500) - fine. Everyone was OK. NOW, apparently the WHOLE DAMN THING from the house to the street needs to be fixed, the yard torn up and the price tag more like $3,000 - and they want us to cover the $1,000 difference! What-the-F-EVER!
Due diligence completely lacking on this one. I already hate these people... This better not fall through. I'll just lay an egg if it falls through.
Nice weekend Sunday, July 25, 2004 08:19 p.m. |
We drove by our new house today to see if any progress had been made on the repairs - the water main is fixed, now we just need to see the tree come down. Three more weeks til closing!
My grandpa's 72nd birthday was today, we went out to their house and had a fabulous picnic. They had a whole bunch of things from their Boundary Waters trip set up for the kids to play with including a tent, the canoe, a little fire pit for marshmallows and a demonstration of the pulley/bucket system used to get water from one of the rivers. It was like a little amusement park! We played badminton and the kids played in the same play house I played in when I was little. My grandparents built a real house on their 1.3 acre property when I was little and its still in the same great condition. I can't imagine a life without them, they're one in a million, for sure.
Stephen is taking the kids to Cleveland, OH the day we close on the house. 8/13/04 - also the same day my best friend gets into town! I'm planning on having a garage sale 8/14 and renting a moving truck 8/15, getting the furniture moved over there and making a trip to Ikea for bunk beds, a wardrobe, desk and perhaps a couch. Yikes! A lot, but its needed.
Work on the house is really shaping up. Stephen found someone who used to own a roofing company who's willing to do a 3-way trade for some tattoo work. We also know a guy who does landscaping, so we'll be able to trust we're not getting screwed...
Eventually we'd like to replace the fence with wood, build a little patio, install a shed, build a garage, install gutters, widen the porch, add insulation, reside the house, replace the windows, landscape the boulevard and perhaps finish a room in the basement. :) You know, little stuff!

Thursday - wheeeeee Thursday, July 22, 2004 09:26 a.m. |
That means tomorrow is Friday - oh happy day.
We still haven't heard back about the appraisal on our house, but I say: no news is good news. If there were something wrong, I'm sure the loan officer would've called.
Stephen had the day off yesterday, so we went to the zoo to beat the heat indoors. Then we went to Sam's club, snagged some steak and Stephen cooked out - we ate on the deck, it was too hot upstairs. We ended up dragging the TV into the bedroom where there's air conditioning and watching the latest James Bond flick - cheeeeeeesy. We wanted to watch Six Feet Under, but the DVD was cracked! Bummer. I hope Netflix doesn't thing *I* did it.
I've been at work for two hours and haven't done a single speck of work - shame on me. Lets get to it!

The Budget Crunch Wednesday, July 21, 2004 10:36 a.m. |
So I've been trying to figure out ways to arrange this budget around our new expenses. I've come up with a list of ways to cut costs - let me know if I missed anything:
- Take lunches from home
- Take coffee from home
- Eat the free cereal at the office for breakfast
- Take the free cereal home from the office (limit of three bags/boxes a day
- Shop only at Sam's Club
- Don't carry cash
- Cancel the cable
- Lower the 401K contribution for a couple years
- Don't purchase vacation time
- Cancel United Way donation
- Shop at thrift stores
- Use the fabric we already have instead of buying new for projects
- Put a dollar cap on gifts
- Buy used/rental return furniture
- Use coupons (does Sam's Club even take coupons?)
- Use free entertainment: museums, zoo, etc.
- Get books from the library
- Pay attention to the lights, A/C useage
- Learn about insulation for the house
- Do home repairs myself
- Reduce Netflix subscription (done this morning!)
I'm trying... its so hard. Stephen's going to get a part time day job at the YMCA we use to cover our membership and make some extra money for spending cash - that'd eliminate $85.00 a month in the membership fee and mean I don't have to budget for his entertainment money (beer) either. My cuts on 401K, vacation and donations would free up about $140.00/month and everything else should really add up. We're just so used to being able to have whatever we want whenever we want it - this will be different, for sure. But worth it!

Blah - I need caffiene. Bad.
It was unbearable in the apartment last night, the heat and humidity were intolerable. I took Veronica and Matthew to the gym, then to the fabric store, then we dined on french fries and chocolate shakes at Wendy's. Yum.
Stephen came home early from work last night, with beer. I have no clue how he bought beer - seems like he always finds a way.
God I'm beat.
I archived for the first time this morning - I hate the way the page looks - I have to look into HTML a little more.
